Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Science and Technology, School of Public Health and Community Development, Maseno University.
We have a broad spectrum of represented disciplines and are located in Siriba Campus, which also houses medical school and natural sciences. The department offers many opportunities to study biomedical Sciences and to enter the research field at an early stage.
We offer Bachelor of Science degree program in Medical Biotechnology, nine Master of Science and eleven Doctor of Philosophy degree programs. We are committed to giving quality education by offering up-to-date, relevant courses that provide theoretical knowledge, practical skills and experiences to prepare students to pursue careers in biotechnology, teaching and research in health related sciences field.
Teaching in the department is also supported by a dedicated team of academic and technical staff. In addition to teaching, faculty members of the department are involved in various high-quality collaborative research works in drug resistance, alternative medicines, cancers, genetic mechanisms of diseases, and infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis. Our teams remain at the forefront of Biomedical Sciences and regularly publish their findings in some of the most respected health journals.
The department prides itself in not only providing an academic environment but also exposure to practical aspects of Biomedical Science through collaborations with national and international research Institutions that the students benefit from, with field work recognized as a part of the curriculum. The academic and technical knowledge and skills acquired by our graduates allow them to work in both local and international Research Institutions, Biotechnology companies, Drug Companies, Quality assurance and Food Industries, Teaching Institutions, Government and Private hospitals and with national and County governments.
