Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Science and Technology, School of Public Health and Community Development, Maseno University, Kenya.
We are located in Siriba Campus at Maseno, which also houses the medical school, natural and agricultural sciences.
We have a broad spectrum of represented disciplines that offers many opportunities in biomedical Sciences. The department offers quality programmes and conducts high level research which aim to improve health care by making scientific discoveries in disease diagnosis and treatment, solving medical problems, and advancing scientific technology using quantitative methods; and to prepare graduates to succeed in the evolving fields of biomedical science and biotechnology. The purpose of biomedical science and technology department is to train graduates who will play a role in improving how we diagnose, treat, and understand disease.
We offer Bachelor of Science degree program in Medical Biotechnology, nine Master of Science and eleven Doctor of Philosophy degree programs in various areas of specialization. We are committed to giving quality education by offering up-to-date, relevant courses that provide theoretical knowledge, practical skills and experiences to prepare students to pursue careers in biotechnology, teaching and research in health-related sciences. Our programmes have industrial attachment incorporated as a part of the curriculum. The academic and technical knowledge and skills acquired by our graduates allow them to get job opportunities in various sectors of health care systems and economy, including national and international research institutions, pharmaceutical industries, quality control laboratories, food industries, government and private hospitals, training institutions like universities and polytechnics as well as national and County governments.
Teaching in the department is supported by highly qualified, experienced and dedicated team of academic and technical staff. In addition, faculty members are involved in various high-quality collaborative research in emerging pathogens, drug resistance, alternative medicines, cancers, genetic mechanisms of diseases, and infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis. Our team remains at the forefront of biomedical research and regularly publish their findings in some of the most respected health and scientific journals.
The department continues forge strong linkages and partnerships with national and international research institutions.
