Health issues in sub-Saharan Africa are unique to the continent. The BSc, HSM with IT programme is designed to address the national, and regional health system needs in using relevant strategies while retaining the international or global perspectives of healthcare.
- Sustainability
As the custodian of the programme, the University recognizes positive contributions from stakeholders and collaborators in its endeavor to improve health systems management and development in Africa. The goodwill of the stakeholders involved will be crucial to the sustainability of the programme. - Practicality
The burden of diseases is still an obstacle to development in many African countries. The current approaches to managing health systems have not worked to mitigate this problem. The programme is therefore designed to provide evidence-based training and ‘lessons learned’ approaches that have been proved practical to improving health systems in Africa and other parts of the world with similar environments. - Creative Thinking Skills Development
The programme endeavors to inculcate within the students a creative and analytical thinking process during their training in regard to the best approaches in solving health system challenges. Ultimately, this is expected to build up to reflective thinking abilities in the practice of their professional roles for the improvement of healthcare delivery.
- Innovativeness
The programme accepts that change in regard to health systems management issues is inevitable. Therefore, the programme adopts a holistic approach to training as well as recognizing the need to move in tandem with trends. - Outcome-Based Training
Programme design and implementation is based on the need to have graduates attain the stated competencies at the end of the programme.
